We are excited about the many recent breakthroughs in neuroscience, the psychology of learning, memory, and recall that present exciting new opportunities for homeschooling parents. These have opened the possibilities for accelerated student learning, and saving parent time, by reducing the time spent reviewing materials in the classroom and transferring this to smarter individual study time.
Learn more, better, faster, and save time. That’s a pretty compelling promise.
Our expertise provides you and your children with online learning courses that deliver on this promise. Learn how to deploy smart study practices starting today.
Einstein is quoted as saying that “insanity is doing the same thing over and over again – and expecting a different result.”
Break the Old Problem that Repeats Itself
- The ability to learn has not been taught as the discipline or science that it can and should be.
For most adults and children, learning how to learn is not something we have been taught. At best, students get admonitions to “study hard” and “do your homework.” But this is not instructive – because it doesn’t tell us how to study and do so smartly.
Well intentioned encouragements, unsupported by proven scientific methods and techniques, provide no solutions. Or potentially worse, they become part of the problem, preventing us from addressing issues that can and should be fixed.
- Most people don’t know smart study techniques.
Think about it – who trained you to how to study in school? If you are like most, the answer is — no one! The vast majority of adults say that they never received formally trained in study techniques. This shouldn’t be. At the Center for Home Schooling we, as children, didn’t either.
So, this has become the unfortunate default model – study skills are mostly acquired through individual observation and random trial and error – thus laden with misunderstood approaches, poor practices, and inefficient techniques. Then, this is passed on to the next generation.
We agree this observation fits most traditional studying and learning.
- Parents are untrained in new learning principles.
For generations this has been the reality – parents who were untrained in learning principles passed down the same ad hoc study practices, or in many cases, no smart study practices at all. Students are left to figure out how to study on their own. But this needn’t be the case.
We are determined to alter this situation with our systematic approach that deploys online learning and powerful parent coaching. The science is there – let’s use it.
- The ability to acquire knowledge and recall information is too important to be left to random processes and ad hoc techniques.
